The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has awarded contracts for several projects, including one to Hyderabad based firm Megha Engineering — which has bagged four bids to build various sections of the Alibaug Virar Multi Modal Corridor (MMC), and the Pune Ring Road. Megha Engineering was recently in the news for purchasing electoral bonds, most of which were redeemed by the ruling BJP.

The company is already engaged in other major infrastructure projects in Mumbai and the MMR, such as the BMC’s road contracts and the MMRDA’s twin tunnel project civil works.

The construction of the access-controlled expressway connector to Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg from Jalna to Nanded has been awarded to Roadway Solutions India Infra Limited. This project includes Package 6 Part-A, covering 13.434 km from Borgaon to Degloor in Nanded district on National Highway (NH161), and Part-B, which involves improving the road from Hingoli Gate to Chatrapati Chowk in Nanded City. It also includes a flyover and a bridge across the Godavari River, spanning 4.48 km. The total value of this contract is Rs 2,650.60 crore.

For the much-anticipated Alibaug Virar Multi Modal Corridor (MMC), MSRDC has opened technical bids for 11 packages. Companies like Navayuga Engineering, Oriental Structural Engineers, L&T, IRCON, J Kumar Infraprojects, Megha Engineering, and Welspun have submitted bids and are the lowest bidders for this project.

The Alibaug Virar Multi Modal Corridor will stretch through Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts and will require approximately 1,347.22 hectare of mainly privately-owned land. The overall project cost has risen substantially to approximately Rs 55,564 crore due to escalating land costs and changes in land acquisition laws. Originally, the project was estimated at Rs 12,554 crore, according to MSRDC.
