Firing in train: Forensics confirms RPF cop’s hate remarks in videos, says GRP

Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Chetan Singh who was arrested for shooting four men dead on July 31 inside a train was slapped with Section 153A after a forensic examination of various video clips, purportedly showing him making “hate comments”, confirmed it was him.

According to Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel, they got the forensic examination done to match Singh’s voice sample and photos with that of the man seen in the videos widely shared on social media after the incident.

The cop, who was on escort duty on the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express, shot dead four men, including his senior officer assistant sub-inspector Tikaram Meena, and three passengers — Abdul Kadar Mohamed Hussain Bhanpurawala, Syed Saifuddin and Asgar Abbas Sheikh.

The GRP investigators also informed the court on Monday that they managed to trace the passengers who had recorded the video of Singh in which he is seen making “objectionable” and “hateful” comments.

GRP men also recorded statements of other passengers who corroborated how Singh delivered a communal speech after killing four people on the train, sources said.

The forensic report and these accounts were the basis of adding sections 153A to the case, a GRP officer said. Police also recorded the statements of two other RPF jawans who were on escort duty, train manager, loco pilot, assist local pilot, ticket checker, coach attendent.Police are also recording statements other RPF men who stay in the same barack where Singh lives. Singh previously worked in Gujarat and Ujjain in MP.

Singh’s counsel Amit Mishra claimed that he suffered from an anxiety attack, and he was undergoing treatment as his mental condition has not been stable for over a year now.
