Two members of a family were hospitalised due to suffocation after a fire broke out in a residential building in the Goregaon area of Mumbai early on Wednesday, while in another incident, a minor fire broke out within South Mumbai's Crawford Market. The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) officials at the Goregaon blaze site said the fire originated from inside the bedroom of a flat on the second floor of the ground-plus-seven-storey residential building around 4 am. "According to primary observations, the fire originated from within the electrical installations and spread further through the air conditioning duct. The presence of household combustible items like wooden furniture, beds, and books further intensified the blaze," said an officer, adding that the blaze was extinguished around 4.15 am. Two family members of the apartment - Rameela Shah, 65, and Krunal Shah, 40, who inhaled the smoke while they were sleeping, fainted due to suffocation. "Immediately afterwards, they were rescued by neighbours and rushed to Mumbai's Kokilaben hospital," the officer added. According to the disaster cell, the two individuals are currently in a stable condition. In the second incident, a level 1 fire broke out inside a closed shop in Crawford Market at 2.13 am on Wednesday, said Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) disaster management cell. "The fire must have broken out from a short circuit incident, as the flames remained confined within the electrical wiring system. The shop was very small in size, and the entire corridor where the shop was located was engulfed with smoke," said an officer. The blaze was extinguished around 4.30 am, and no injuries were reported in the incident, a fire officer said.
