In a major relief to thousands of aspiring teachers across Maharashtra, the state government has announced that final-year students of B.Ed, D.Ed, and M.Ed courses will now be eligible to appear for the upcoming Teachers Aptitude and Intelligence Test (TAIT), the application window for which will close on May 10.

As the TAIT registration has started, many aspiring teachers are of the opinion that the last date to apply for the exam is just a few days before they complete their final year of respective teachers’ courses. Since TAIT is not an annual process, there was a demand from aspiring teachers that they should be allowed to appear for TAIT 2025.

The Maharashtra State Examination Council, which conducts TAIT for recruitment of teachers in government-run schools, has declared that students currently in their final semester or those appearing for their final exams will be allowed to sit for the test.

This move is expected to benefit lakhs of students whose results are anticipated to be declared only by late May or early June. However, this relief comes with a strict rider. While these students can appear for TAIT, their results will not be released until they submit their final mark sheets.

“The students are required to provide their passing certificates within a month of result declaration of their teaching courses. Failure to do so will automatically lead to disqualification of their TAIT 2025 attempt and they will not be able to participate in any government recruitment based on TAIT 2025,” states a circular issued by the state government’s school education department.

Although it is applied with conditions, aspiring teachers have welcomed the move. Most of them highlighted how TAIT is held with considerable gap and without this relaxation, they would have had to wait for a next chance. “Last TAIT was held in 2022 and the one before that was held in 2017. Had these students missed the 2025 TAIT, it was clear that they would have to wait, without any certainty, for the next TAIT. This is a great relief to final year students,” said a professor from a B.Ed. college in Mumbai.
