Dismissed senior police inspector Pradeep Sharma,arrested in the Lakhan Bhaiyya fake encounter case,has moved the Bombay High Court seeking bail after the sessions court rejected his plea last month.
The lower court had observed if bail was granted,the accused might try to intimidate the complainant and witnesses. Sharmas colleague Pradeep Suryavanshi was also denied bail by the court on similar ground.
Sharma,one of the famed encounter specialists of the Mumbai Crime Branch,was booked for killing Ram Narayan Gupta alias Lakhan Bhaiyya,an alleged member of the Chhota Rajan gang,in a fake encounter in November 2006. As many as 12 persons,including six policemen,were arrested in the case.
Advocate Ram Prasad Gupta,had moved the Bombay High Court seeking an inquiry into the death of his brother Gupta.
According to Ram Prasad Gupta,Lakhan was picked up from his house by police around seven hours before his death. His family members had then filed a complaint with police fearing that he may be killed in an encounter.
The High Court adjourned the hearing till June 14.
