Nagpur engineering student arrested for killing parents over career choice
The alleged killer son confessed to the murder after his arrest and the decomposed bodies of his parents were recovered.

A 25-year-old engineering student was arrested on Wednesday after he allegedly killed his parents in Nagpur over choice of career and left their body in the house for six days before foul smell led to the discovery of the crime.
According to police, the accused Utkarsh Dhakole allegedly killed his parents — social worker Liladhar Dhakole, 55, employed with a thermal plant, and Aruna, 50, a private school teacher — over his decision to continue with engineering despite repeatedly failing in the subjects and his parents asking him to quit the course.
The crime took place on December 26, but it came to light Wednesday morning after neighbours experienced a strong smell from the Dhakhole household, in Kapil Nagar area of Nagpur.
According to police, Utkarsh first strangulated his mother on December 26 afternoon and stabbed his father when he returned from work in the evening.
Preliminary probe revealed that Utkarsh was trying to clear engineering for the past six years, but could not succeed. “He failed to clear several subjects in his engineering course. His parents, therefore, wanted him to quit and choose something else. However, he was against their suggestion,” said DCP zone 5 Niketan Kadam.
On Wednesday, after the bodies were recovered, police detained Utkarsh on suspicion and during questioning, he admitted to have committed the crime, they said.
According to police, Utkarsh also concealed the crime from his younger sister and took her to their uncle’s place, where they lived for a few days, claiming that their parents were at a meditation session in Bangalore where cell phones were not allowed.
Utkarsh had kept his father’s mobile phone with him and to ensure that his sister did not grow suspicious, he sent a message on December 27 from his father’s mobile informing that they would return by January 5, said DCP Kadam.
Police have charged him for murder and are further collecting evidence to build a strong case, another officer said.
