A man and a woman in their mid thirties, who were in a live-in relationship, allegedly died by suicide on Monday at a building they were living in in Hanuman Nagar area in Nalasopara (west).

Nalasopara police have registered a case of accidental death and have been inquiring with the deceased’s relatives and friends to determine the exact reason that forced the two to take the extreme step. The police did not find a suicide note in their residence.

According to police, the two worked as sanitation workers with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and were employed in Mumbai central area. They had been staying in Hanuman Nagar area since 2022. During a preliminary inquiry, police learnt that the man was married and he had a 12-year-old son. But he has been staying with another woman in a rented flat since the last three years. A police officer said there was some dispute between the two and often fought in the house, which neighbours could hear, but what had happened on the day of the incident was not clear.

Both suffered severe injuries to the head and other parts of the body. People from the building had rushed them to the hospital but the two were declared dead on arrival, said a police officer.
