Dongri youth arrested for murdering man

A 19-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly stabbing a 34-year-old man to death.

A 19-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly stabbing a 34-year-old man to death. The victim,Haizul Haq,was allegedly stabbed to death by the youth who had suspected him of robbing his house. The incident took place in front of Musafir Khana at Wadi Bunder in Dongri at 7 pm on Tuesday evening.

“Haq was a resident of the area and a fish seller by profession. He stepped out on Tuesday evening and was confronted by the youth who had accused Haq of robbing his house a few days ago. Haq refuted the youth’s claims and said that he was not responsible. An argument ensued and the accused stabbed Haq with a button knife,” said senior police inspector VB Mukne of Dongri Police.

Mukne said that Haq suffered stab wounds on the stomach and chest. “He was admitted to JJ Hospital where he succumbed to injuries,” he said. On the basis of a complaint by a resident of the area who witnessed the crime, the police arrested the accused.

“He was initially charged under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC,but we changed the case to murder under section 302 when Haq succumbed to injuries. From our investigations, the accused had financial disputes with the victim,” Mukne said. The arrested accused was produced in court on Wednesday and has been remanded in police custody till May 19.

However, the magistrate has asked the police to conduct a medical test to ascertain his age, after he felt that he looked too young to be a 19-year-old. “We have been given a day to take the accused for medical tests. If tests prove that he an adult, the court will give the nod for the police remand,” he added.
