There is good news for traffic motorists who are apprehensive of jams at the Worli end of the sea link. The traffic police have chalked out a dispersal plan that would tackle the emanating and culminating traffic at the Worli-end of the sea link.
According to Sanjay Barve,Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic),the traffic from the sea link would be trifurcated from the roundabout at the INS Trata junction. People have a misconception that there would be a huge jam at Worli. The traffic from the sea link can either take a roundabout and use the Worli Dairy Road to south Mumbai or exit via the Passport Office Road or use Sir Pochkahnwala Road (one way), Barve explained.
He added that the rotary at the Trata junction has been reduced for smooth flow of traffic while the island at RG Thadani junction has been reduced. The BMC has also been generous enough to part with their land at Love Grove pumping station which will help vehicles to turn smoothly, he added.
Meanwhile, the Worli residents who have been protesting against the use of Worli sea face road,as it will become an obstacle for large number of pedestrians, will have a skywalk just at the mouth of the sea link.
The skywalk has been proposed at the Worli sea face and the work would start once environmental clearances are obtained, Barve added. However, residents of the area do not feel the skywalk will help. The BSWL would further congest the Worli Dairy Road especially during the peak hours. The increase in the density of vehicles would add to the woes of the pedestrians, said Prabhakar Sawkar,a Worli resident.
Barve said that two jetties should be constructed for manning the sea link. While the underbellies of the bridge will have CCTVs,two jetties should be constructed at Mahim and Worli navigation channels as part of the coastal security, he requested.
