Diagnosed with cancer,youth ends life

The incident took place around 7.30 am,when Desai went to his room to have his medication and locked himself in. Desai,who teaches maths at Mahesh Tutorials in Malad,stayed with his parents and brother’s family. His father Malabhai owns a dairy in Malad (East).

According to the police and Desai’s family,he was admitted to Kokilaben Hospital four days back as he was suffering from tumours in his shoulder and chest. He underwent an operation to remove the tumor in his shoulder.

On Tuesday,doctors informed Desai’s parents that his chest tumour was malignant,but could be treated. Desai was prescribed medication and later discharged.

In his statement to the police,Malabhai said his son was depressed after he got to know he had cancer.

On Wednesday,Desai went to his room and locked it from inside. When he did not come out,his father knocked on the door. After there was no response,he broke open the door and found Desai’s body. He then informed the police. The body was sent to Bhagwati Hospital for postmortem.

“We have recorded the statements of his family members and investigations are on,” said sub-inspector Deepak Girne from the Dindoshi police station.
