INITIATING action against contractors allegedly responsible for shoddy desilting work that resulted in massive flooding on June 19, Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta on Wednesday ordered that all their payments be with-held. Following the inundation, Mehta had set-up a five-member committee to probe the incident.
The 145-page report was submitted to the standing committee chairman. Yashodhar Phanse, Chairman, Standing Committee said, “Whatever be the analysis of the committee, we will see to it that those blamed are put to task.”
A senior civic official also confirmed that all the documents related to the desilting work should also be possessed in immediate effect.
“The commissioner has also asked Additional Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Deshmukh to implement the suggestions in the report within the next one week,” the official said.
Though civic officials remained tight-lipped on the committee’s report, sources said that the report has blamed errant contractors who claimed to have finished desilting work before monsoon.
The report also suggests penalising the contractors for shoddy work, a source said.
