Shifted : Bagwe reviews Kasabs security in prison,Crime Branch to probe incident Injured gangster Abu Salem and Mustafa Dossa,a close aide of Dawood Ibrahim,were shifted from Arthur Road prison to separate jails early on Sunday morning. The development followed a scuffle between the two in the jail on Saturday morning,during which Dossa had attacked Salem with a spoon. The decision to shift the two from the jail was taken by officials after a visit by Minister of State for Home Ramesh Bagwe to the jail to review the security for convicted 26/11 gunman Ajmal Kasab. Salem was shifted to Taloja Prison close to Panvel while Dossa was sent to Thane prison. Salem,a key accused in the 1993 serial blasts case,will now keep company with gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli who has been lodged in Taloja jail in an extortion case. Arthur Road Jail superintendent Rajendra Dhamne said,They have been shifted for security reasons as we dont want any more trouble between them; and with Kasab also being lodged there,we wanted to ensure a calm environment. Salem was attacked by Dossa and an associate with a sharp spoon outside their barrack following a heated argument. The NM Joshi Marg police have filed an FIR against Dossa and his accomplice. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Deven Bharti said the Mumbai Police Crime Branch would carry out further investigations in the case. Salems lawyer Saba Qureshi said he would meet Salem in Taloja jail on Monday. I will try to find out the real reason behind the attack,and accordingly move the appropriate court seeking action against Dossa. Salem,who had been lodged in the Arthur Road Jail since his extradition from Portugal in 2005,is facing trial in nine cases,including two murders. Dossa,who was deported from Dubai in March 2003,is also facing trial in the 1993 blasts case. He has been accused of supervising the landing of weapons and explosives in Raigad prior to the explosions on March 12,1993,that killed 257 persons and left many injured. Prison sources said Dossa was,during the argument,believed to have told Salem to stop interfering in his activities. Salem,in return,told Dossa to mind his own business. The reply did not go down well with Dossa who almost controls the prison by flaunting his money, one of them said. Salem had moved up the underworld ladder after doing some small-time gold smuggling for Chhota Shakheel. He had later moved on to extorting money from people associated with Bollywood at the behest of Anees Ibrahim. The D-gang had entrusted the extortion from Bollywood to him as he had a keen interest in films. However,in the late 1990s,Salem broke out from D-company and went on his own. He was arrested in Portugal,along with Bollywood starlet Monica Bedi,whom he calls his wife,and later extradited. Dossas elder brother Mohammed Dossa is still said to be in Pakistan along with Dawood,where they had fled to after the 1993 serial bomb blasts.
