Despite repeated advisories from the Centre to improve screening, Maharashtra’s daily Covid-19 testing still hovers around 11,000 — which can dip as low as 6,000 on certain days.

This also leads to massive fluctuation in detection of new cases, as on April 11, the state experienced a 180 per cent surge in cases in the last 24 hours.

Similarly, Mumbai also recorded a spike of 154 per cent in daily Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours due to low testing during the weekend.

An official from the state health department said that a several reports remain pending on the weekend, which get reflected in the total cases reported on Tuesdays.

At present, the number of active cases stood at 4,875 in Maharashtra.
