Court extends custody of ‘rave’ party organiser

Cops told the court that the arrested accused was not co-operating with the police and they needed more time to question him in order to get leads about an alleged drug-peddler who had supplied the contraband for a sundown party at the Azok Restaurant.

The Juhu police had arrested Handa,who is one of the directors of Oakwood Hotel,and also its manager,for organizing the party where the police seized 110 grams of cocaine and 64 grams of charas. Police officers added that they have recovered a guest list from Handa’s possession that was given to him by the disc jockeys (DJ) at the party,15 days before the event.

“The list that has 29 names of Bollywood and television celebrities was handed over to Handa by the Designer Hippies DJs enlisting them their fans,” a police officer said.

When the deal between the DJs and the organisers was going on,the DJs had claimed that if they were hired to play at the party they would be inviting people or fans from their list,the police said. The police are now scrutinizing the list to find out whether the DJs actually knew the celebrities.

When questioned,Pratap Dighavkar,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IX) said,“The investigation is on. We are checking for clues that could lead us to the drug suppliers.”

Meanwhile,the police had called Namrata Kumar,a public relations officer who was responsible for inviting celebrities to the party,for questioning. She allegedly told the police that she knew cricketers Rahul Sharma and Wayne Parnell through a friend and had invited the two.
