As the police suspect a bigger child selling racket, the matter has now been transferred to Mumbai crime branch for further investigation. Sources said crime branch unit-9 sleuths have managed to detain three accused persons in the case and may arrest them soon.
The police have booked Shabbir Khan, his wife Saniya, Usha Rathod and Shakeel Makrani.
Shabbir and Saniya have been drug addicts for a long time. Initially they stayed with Shabbir’s sister Rubina Khan’s place in Bandra (East) Bharat Nagar. But due to their drug addiction Rubina would often fight with them, hence they moved to Saniya’s mother’s place in Versova. After her mother’s demise they moved to Nalasopara along with their three kids.
Looking to save money, they moved back to Rubina’s place.
When they arrived at Rubina’s place, she asked them why there was only one child with them when they had three kids. Saniya admitted to selling their two kids to arrange money to buy drugs.
In May 2022 Shabbir and Saniya sold Hussain for Rs 60,000 to an Andheri based person, who is yet to be identified. The couple sold their other child to Shakeel Makrani for Rs 14,000 last month, the police said.
Shocked, Rubina then approached the police.
