A Thane court Wednesday granted interim bail to Najib Mulla, Nationalist Congress Party corporator who is one of the accused named in builder Suraj Parmar’s suicide note. Mulla, a coporator from Rabodi, had applied for interim bail Wednesday morning, hours after the death of his aunt.

“We applied for bail on an emergency basis after his aunt passed away on Tuesday night. He will be let out of jail for a few hours for the funeral and then go straight back,” said Advocate Rounak Naik, who represented Mulla. The court granted bail on the condition that Mulla be taken to the funeral in Rabodi with an armed escort.

Mulla and his fellow NCP corporator Hanumant Jagdale, Congress corporator Vikrant Chavan and Independent corporator Sudhakar Chavan were placed under arrest in December, over two months after Parmar shot himself in his under-construction tower in Thane. Parmar had mentioned their names in a 13-page suicide note as having demanded bribes to clear his projects.
