IIT Bombay suicide case: Cops recover cutter used by arrested batchmate to ‘threaten’ Darshan Solanki
Khatri, currently in police custody, is being interrogated to find out the exact nature of his dispute with Solanki.

The cutter allegedly used to threaten IIT-Bombay student Darshan Solanki by his batchmate Arman Khatri – who has been arrested for abetting Solanki’s suicide – has been recovered, the Mumbai Police SIT said on Tuesday.
According to the police, it was due to the fear of Khatri causing him harm that Solanki allegedly jumped off his hostel room in February. The Mumbai Police, in its remand report, had mentioned recovering the cutter as one of the reasons for seeking Khatri’s police custody.
An officer said, “Today, we took Khatri to his hostel room on IIT campus. There, we recovered the cutter based on the information provided by him in the presence of panch witnesses. It will be an important evidence.”
Khatri, currently in police custody, is being interrogated to find out the exact nature of his dispute with Solanki. An officer said that while the police are aware that a communal comment passed by Solanki led Khatri to threaten him, the latter has not yet told the police what was the remark.
The officer said they are hoping that by Thursday, when Khatri’s police remand ends, they will have clarity on the sequence of events that led to Solanki’s suicide. In his suicide note, Solanki had written “Arman you killed me”.
The note was found by the SIT on March 3 from Solanki’s hostel room, nearly three weeks after his death. Following this, an FIR was registered and after handwriting analysis confirmed that the suicide note was written by Solanki, Khatri was arrested.
