The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has asked the Kalina Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) to expedite the delivery of forensic test reports awaited in the Karan Kakad murder case. A report from the FSL,stating whether human remains recovered from Kumbharli Ghat in Chiplun were of Kakad,is expected to be ready in around a weeks time, crime branch sources said on Thursday.
It is vital to conclusively establish that the body parts recovered by the police are Kakads, said a senior Crime Branch officer.
A decomposed torso was recovered by the police from Kumbharli Ghat on Monday, which the police claimed was Kakads. Two weeks earlier, the police had also recovered a skull and an arm which were also reportedly Kakads, from the same area.
A day after the police had first claimed they had found parts of Kakads body, his family had said the skull recovered did not seem to be his. Crime Branch officers subsequently also recovered samples of blood from a bathroom in Kakads apartment in Oberoi Springs Tower in Andheri (West),which they said would be matched with the remains recovered. During a sweep of the apartment, the police had found the coagulated blood, which they believe was from the victim.
Kakad,an aspiring producer was staying in Andheri (West),and had been missing since March 6 along with his BMW car, gold ornaments,iPod,cellphone and laptop, collectively valued at around Rs 45.44 lakh. The crime branch has arrested four suspects Vijay Palande,Dhananjay Shinde,Manoj Gajkosh and Simran Sood in connection with the case.
