The murder of government contractor and owner of Ashtabhuja Constructions,Sangam Mishra (45) who was shot by unknown assailants on last Saturday has brought a number of his business associates under a cloud of suspicion with the police suspecting business rivalry to be one of the main reasons for the murder.
DCP Sanjay Mohite (Zone 2) said that apart from despatching teams to places like Pen in Raigad, various business acquaintances of Sangam are being questioned regarding his business background. The police have ruled out robbery as a motive for the killing. The polices belief is supported by the fact that the assailants left the Rs 2 lakh cash, his mobile phone and Rs 25,000 in his wallet untouched.
Diwakar Mishra,a cousin of Sangam Mishra, has been called for questioning by the police. Diwakar, who is a cousin of Sangam Mishra, had been a business associate as well as a bodyguard of Sangam. As he was close to the victim both personally as well as professionally,we have started enquiring with him to get a clearer picture of Sangams business dealings, said Mohite.
Mishras body was found lying in a pool of blood around 10:30 pm last Saturday outside the elevator of the Kasturba Bhavan building, where he resided,by a 25-year-old man who had come to meet his uncle.
The mans uncle identified the body and proceeded to call the police and Mishras family. The Gamdevi police have registered a case of murder.
