A 20-year-old son of a police constable has allegedly died by suicide on Friday after shooting himself with his father’s service pistol. Police said they have not recovered a suicide note and are trying to determine the reason for this extreme act.
According to police officials, the deceased has been identified as Harsh Maske, a second year B.Com student. Harsh lived with his father, Santosh Maske, who is posted in the Special Protection Unit, as well as his mother, sister, and grandmother.
On Friday, police said the constable was out of town while Harsh’s mother and sister were out at work.
“Harsh was alone at home as his grandmother was taking a stroll in the common passage of the house when, at around 12:30 pm, he suddenly went into the washroom with his father’s service pistol, locked the door, and shot himself in the temple,” an officer said.
The grandmother, who heard the gunshot, alerted local residents and Harsh’s mother. He was then rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The N.M. Joshi Marg police were also informed. They have registered an accidental death report and are investigating the matter to determine why Harsh took the extreme step.
