Con couple admits forging papers to promise MLC seats

Parag Shah and his chartered accountant wife Jigna,who promised a Pune and a Nagpur businessman MLC seats and cheated them of Rs 5.2 crore last year,have allegedly admitted to forging letters and notifications given to complainant Manoj Tiwari.

The couple,who allegedly claimed they were in touch with Congress members,have also allegedly told police an accomplice in the city helped them forge signatures of Congress leaders and chief secretary to the state government. Police are hunting for the accomplice.

“The couple denied the complainant claim that he met Congress leader Ahmed Patel in his house,where Patel signed a letter. They said they forged all signatures,” said a Crime Branch officer. Parag and Jigna were presented before a court Wednesday and remanded in police custody till April 8.

“We have to recover the remaining Rs 2 crore Tiwari claims he was returned,” said the officer.

Tiwari,a real estate agent,claimed the couple promised MLC seats to his friends, a Pune builder and a Nagpur lawyer,to increase status. He was allegedly introduced to the couple by another real estate agent Hitesh Zhaveri.

Tiwari alleged in April last year,the couple and Zhaveri promised him he would get a letter from Congress leader Ahmed Patel confirming the MLC seats. However,he was cheated. Parag and Jigna were arrested Tuesday after they were denied anticipatory bail. Zhaveri has been granted interim relief till April 10.
