The civic body had released the detailed project report of the road stretching from south Mumbai’s Nariman Point to Kandivali in the western suburbs last month.
A senior civic official said, “We have extended the deadline to provide more time to citizens to send their views on the coastal road project. Since it has evoked a poor response, we thought citizens will need more time to study the project in detail.”
Residents can send their suggestions/objections to bycherdsplg@yahoo.co.in or submit hard copies at Chief Engineer (roads and traffic), Ground floor, Engineering hub, Dr E Moses road, Worli, Mumbai-18.
According to officials, the 35.6 km road is expected to provide relief to lakhs of commuters who currently take more than three hours to cover the same distance.
The project, however, had also invited flak from environmentalists, urban planning experts and fishermen community. The kolis or the fishermen community, some of Mumbai’s oldest residents, fear that the coastal road will threaten the breeding grounds for fish, and impact aquatic life.
