Facing criticism over major traffic snarls due to potholes on the Thane-Nashik Highway, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday visited the area and instructed the officials to complete the work of the eight-lane road on the highway up to Padgha on war-footing. He also asked them to immediately fill the potholes with mastic.

The CM inspected Kharegaon to Padgha and the Khadvali-Phata road on the Thane-Nashik highway, accompanied by the district collector and officials from MMRDA, MSRDC, National Highways and the Public Works Department.

“Construction of an eight-lane road upto Padgha on Thane-Nashik highway is in progress. This work should be done on a war-footing,” Shinde told the officials and instructed them to install height barriers to ensure that big vehicles do not turn from the spots where people cross the road to go to the village.

Shinde also urged drivers to keep heavy vehicles on the left side of the road so that small vehicles and ambulances can pass by.

The CM later spoke to BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal over the phone and instructed him to immediately get the potholes filled in Mumbai city roads as well as the rain stopped on Sunday. Guardian Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, too, visited several areas and gave instructions to concrete all the roads in Mumbai suburbs using latest technology within two years.

NCP spokesperson Clyde Crasto said, “Isn’t this a little late for the CM to visit these places now? He had promised Mumbaikars that roads would be pothole-free soon, however it does not appear to have happened. Action was also promised against officials and he should share details of what action has been taken.”
