CM Shinde orders release of funds from BMC for MMRDA projects
An MMRDA official noted that allowing the BMC to keep the funds designated for Metro projects was inappropriate.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered the release of funds collected for vital infrastructure projects, including all Metro initiatives, by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). These funds were collected by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The CM has also directed that the one per cent additional stamp duty fees earmarked for Metro projects be allocated to the MMRDA by the state Urban Development (UD) Department.
The directive follows a letter from the Urban Development Department requesting that the BMC retain Rs 1,400 crore from the collected funds for its own projects, such as the coastal road extension and the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road. Reports indicate that the BMC had sought 50 per cent of the funds collected for its initiatives.
An MMRDA official noted that allowing the BMC to keep the funds designated for Metro projects was inappropriate. The concern was raised during the 158th authority meeting chaired by the CM recently, who is also the chairman of the MMRDA, leading to the immediate directive for the full release of funds.
The official added that the Urban Development Secretary is now required to implement these orders and must provide a justification if they are not carried out. At present, the MMRDA estimates that approximately Rs 4,000 crore has been collected as one per cent stamp duty by the state, while the BMC holds around Rs 3,400 crore for vital infrastructure projects.
