(PTI)A week after flagging off the statewide ‘Maha Swachhta Abhiyan’, taking the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) deep-cleaning drive forward, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde participated in a cleanliness campaign in four city pockets on Saturday, including the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to inaugurate on January 12. Flanked by senior civic officials, Shinde also issued instructions for cleaning areas which are frequented by morning walkers during the drive.
Shinde launched the cleanliness drive from Colaba’s INS Shikra premises. Speaking during the visit, Shinde said that the main aim of the cleanliness campaign is the good health of citizens. “For the health of citizens who come for morning walk, cleanliness should be maintained regularly in all areas, and roads should be kept dust-free,” he added.

The chief minister then visited the freeway’s starting point as well as its police chowki. BMC officials were instructed to carry out deep cleaning of the highway to avoid accumulation of dust.
Ahead of Modi’s scheduled visit next week to launch the country’s longest sea bridge, Shinde also inspected sanitation works at Gadi Adda near MTHL’s interchange.
Meanwhile, during a meeting convened at the BMC, senior civic officials issued instructions to take strict action against unauthorised hoardings, banners as well as fasttrack the process of removing abandoned vehicles and encroachments from footpaths.
