Man held for raping,killing 19-yr-old

MUMBAI: A 33-year-old farmhand was arrested in Asangaon on Tuesday for allegedly raping and killing a 19-year-old girl last week,the police said. The suspect,Ashok Baban Mukne,had observed the victim pass by his field for several days before planning the crime,said an officer. The victim,who studied engineering at an institute in Ambernath,was last seen on September 5 evening,when she left home in Shahapur for college. Her family told the police that she took a short cut to Asangaon railway station,which passed through the field where Mukne worked. Mukne was produced before a magistrate on Wednesday and remanded in police custody till September 21.
