‘CIA, Mossad plotted Congress’ defeat in 2014, claims former Congress MP Kumar Ketkar

Congress leader Kumar Ketkar alleged that foreign intelligence agencies, including the CIA and Mossad, influenced the party’s massive defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, a claim made during a Constitution Day event.

He argued the party’s drop from 206 to 44 seats couldn’t be explained solely by voter dissatisfaction.Congress leader Kumar Ketkar claimed that CIA and Mossad acted to prevent Congress from returning to power in 2014.

Former MP and Congress leader Kumar Ketkar claimed that the US intelligence agency CIA and Israeli intelligence agency Mossad were behind the party’s 2014 Lok Sabha election defeat. He was speaking at a programme organized on the occasion of Constitution Day (November 26) at the Maharashtra Congress headquarters Tilak Bhavan on Wednesday.

Congress had to face a major setback in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections where only 44 MPs were elected and the party could not even get the post of Leader of the Opposition.

“How can Congress go from 206 to 44 seats? I don’t believe it now, not even then. This is not just because of public opinion. Was there dissatisfaction and displeasure against Congress? Yes, there was. There was displeasure against Dr Manmohan Singh’s government. But there was no situation where the number of 206 would go down to 44,” Ketkar said.

Ketkar added there were few organisations who realised that they will not be able work unless the Congress comes down from 206. “Among the few organizations that understood this, one was the CIA and the other was the Mossad. These organizations predicted that if the Congress or a Congress-led government returns to power, they will not be able to push their military-industrial policies,” he alleged.

“Mossad created the entire structure for this. We should not underestimate Mossad or overestimate, but realise that it is an important organisation. Mossad studied the elections and each constituency in detail. Both CIA and Mossad carry minute data of every Indian constituency,” he claimed.

Earlier, Ketkar said had the trend of increasing Congress’s seats continued, the party could have even crossed 250 seats in 2014. “In the 2004 elections, the Congress had won 145 seats and then in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, 206 seats. If the same pattern had continued, the Congress would have retained power in the 2014 elections by winning more than 250 seats on its own…The real game began after it was realized that the Congress would come back to power. An attempt was made to ensure that the Congress’s seats did not increase in 2014,” alleged Ketkar.
