Building collapse: 7 more bodies recovered,toll 15

Deputy Engineer of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Mahesh Gupta told The Indian Express that two more persons are yet to be found as per the records of names available with the authorities.

The bodies of Amit Sripatre,Girish Tumsarkar,Manoj Samsher Ansari,Sanjukta Raut,Dilip Ambadare,Premlal Charge and Chhotelal Gautam were recovered today.

“We now have names of Babanrao Posekar and Rupesh Neware on our list. We hope to trace them soon,” Gupta said.

Of the deceased,Sanjukta Raut was the wife of the security guard Anand,who had been waiting to know his wife’s fate along with his 8-year old daughter Sarita. Sarita has been in the care of a relative and was not at the spot when her mother’s body was found.

Meanwhile,the NMC has instituted an inquiry into the quality of construction and design of the warehouse that collapsed on Monday,trapping at least 28 persons. A total of eleven persons had come out alive on the first day. Since then,there has been no survivor of the mishap.

“We have requested Visveswaraya National Institute of Technology to give us a report about the structure. It will cover everything from flaws in design,quality and specifications of material used,strength of the foundation and soil testing,” Gupta said.

Warehouse owner Pramod Khandelwal has been arrested and sent to police custody till January 8.
