The Bombay High Court on Thursday asked the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to inform it about the material collected by it to initiate and conduct preliminary enquiries (PE) against its former zonal director Sameer Wankhede over alleged irregularities found in two cases that he had investigated.

The court, while hearing a plea by Wankhede challenging the PE initiated by NCB Deputy Director-General (DDG) Sanjay Kumar Singh and summons issued against him, also sought to know as to what complaints were filed against him and who had filed them based on which probe was initiated.

It also asked NCB as to what steps it has taken so far to collect material evidence after complaints were filed. Referring to the pendency of his plea before Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) on the issue, the HC asked Wankhede’s lawyer to show how his plea was maintainable before it and how it can be heard simultaneously by two forums. It also asked Wankhede to provide a chart of various proceedings before different forums in the matter along with their details. The NCB last week filed an affidavit in reply seeking dismissal of a plea by Wankhede being heard by a bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Manjusha A Deshpande and said the preliminary probe was justified due to “serious and grave allegations” of irregularities against him.The court will hear the plea next on April 23.
