A two-year-old girl was found dead a couple of feet from track number one between Kanjurmarg and Bhandup railway stations on Sunday afternoon. Many parts of the body were eaten by rats on tracks. Government Railway Police (GRP) said the girl had a wound at the back of her head. They said dried blood covered the back of her head and forehead. A preliminary report by doctors at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar said she died due to a sharp impact on head and shock. It,however, ruled out sexual assault or strangulation. Police believe the girl fell off a local train and died after hitting a rock. Kurla Government Railway Police (GRP) officers said the girl was wearing a pink and white frock and grey pyjamas. A passenger spotted the body and alerted Kanjurmarg station master Dalbir Singh, who immediately contacted Kurla GRP. We were told about the body at 2.30 pm on Sunday. We believe the girl fell from a moving train after 11 pm on Saturday, said senior inspector,Kurla GRP,Shivaji Dhumal. Police are looking for her parents. We have released the details to all stations on Central Railway. We are scanning CCTV footage from stations between CST and Bhandup for clues. Wireless messages have been sent to police stations across Maharashtra. For now,we have registered a case of accidental death under CrPC section 174, Dhumal said. No police station in Mumbai has received any missing report about the girl. Usually, parents file a missing person complaint. Since this hasnt happened yet,the child could just as easily have been thrown out. We are investigating all possibilities, Dhumal said. If we do not get a clue in Maharashtra,we will proceed to other states, he said. Police are also probing if the girl was thrown from a running train. The body was found near a slowdown track. Outstation trains do not run on slowdown tracks. To throw someone from a fast-down track is not easy, said a police source.
