As Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan promised to relook at local body tax (LBT) Friday,BMC scrapped a proposal to appoint Tata Institute of Social Sciences to conduct a study on the octroi system before it is replaced.
The study, for which Rs 25.16 lakh had been set aside, was to help BMC implement LBT efficiently.
If BMC is not even sure if LBT will be implemented in the city, why waste funds on the study? said BJP corporator and standing commitee member Manoj Kotak.
CM had Thursday scrapped the October 1 deadline for implementing LBT in the city, allowing BMC to continue with octroi for the time being.
Until there is a consensus on LBT,there is no need to conduct a study. Once a final decision is taken,BMC will commission the study, said Rahul Shewale, standing committee chairman.
