“Khan was rushed to KEM hospital where he was declared dead before admission. Jadhav was taken to Nair Hospital and is being treated there,” the officer said.
A 24-year-old rider died while his pillion sustained grievous injuries after falling off a bridge as their bike crashed into the divider and another vehicle on the bridge at Senapati Bapat Marg in Lower Parel.
The police said the incident took place in the wee hours on Thursday. A case of rash and negligent driving was registered against the deceased.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Usman Khan while his pillion was Alpesh Jadhav, both residents of Worli. “We suspect they were on a joyride and were overspeeding due to which Khan suddenly lost control over the bike. He rammed into the divided and then crashed into a car,” said an officer.
“Khan was rushed to KEM hospital where he was declared dead before admission. Jadhav was taken to Nair Hospital and is being treated there,” the officer said.
The NM Joshi Marg police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving under IPC and Motor Vehicle Act against Khan. “We have learnt that some other bikers were also with them. We are checking whether these riders were racing in the wee hours,” said an investigator.
