The Beed police on Wednesday declared Krushna Andhale, the accused in the murder of Massajog village sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, who remains at large over a month after the incident — as wanted in the case.

Beed police have now intensified their search for Andhale in neighbouring states apart from Maharashtra. The police have also announced a reward for any information that could lead to his arrest and appealed to citizens to provide information about him.

Police also said those who provide information about the accused will be rewarded by the police and their identity kept confidential.

Deshmukh was abducted and brutally killed on December 9, reportedly for trying to thwart an extortion attempt from a windmill company by the accused persons.

Eight individuals including Walmik Karad, a close aide of NCP minister Dhananjay Munde, have been arrested in the case. Since the murder, Andhale has been at large.

The SIT formed to probe the case had claimed they found call detail records (CDR) of Karad that show he was in touch with the accused who were earlier arrested in the murder case over the phone on the day of Deshmukh’s abduction and murder. The probe team had suspected his involvement in the crime and hence arrested him in the case.

Karad, who was charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), was last week produced in the Beed district session court Wednesday and has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
