IM operatives in police custody till August 3

The Special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court on Thursday remanded two alleged Indian Mujahideen (IM) operatives,Mohamad Abdul Shakoor Khan alias Irfan (32) and his cousin Ayub Raja Ameen Shaikh (28),in police custody till August 3.

The accused,who were apprehended by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad on July 6,were handed over to the Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Thursday,who secured further custody of the duo.

“The accused were handed over to the Crime Branch which is investigating the unsecured Wi Fi network hacking case and car theft case linked to the Ahmedabad serial blast case of 2008. Both have been shown as wanted accused in the case,” said special Public Prosecutor Dilip Shah.

Threeof a family found dead in Thane

Three members of a family were found dead at their house in Anupama Building in Hazuri,Thane. Police officers said the three might have committed suicide. According to police officers of Wagle Estate police station,Anandibai Halankar (65),her son Shivshankar Halankar (40) and daughter Vasanti Halankar (43) were found dead in their house by the other daughter Kunda (42). ‘’We were told that the three were under depression and didn’t interact with neighbours. At 10 pm on Wednesday,Kunda found the three dead and informed the neighbours,who informed us,’’ said an officer.

Constable held for taking bribe

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a constable for accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 at the Kandivali police station. Yashwant Maruti Patil,who is the orderly of the senior police inspector of the police station,was nabbed on Tuesday on a man’s complaint. The ACB said on Tuesday a team led by PI Shinde went to the complainant’s house and threatened him of action as he was running an illegal playing cards club in his house. One of the cops introduced himself as constable Patil and asked the complainant to pay Rs 8,700 as fine and accompany them to the police station. Patil said if he wanted to go scot free,he would have to pay the fine plus Rs 10,000 as bribe.
