ALLEGED Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal,an accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case, told the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court Monday that he would go on an indefinite hunger strike if he was not shifted out of solitary confinement at Arthur Road jail.
Jundal, who is lodged in the same cell where Pakistani gunman Ajmal Kasab was kept, claimed that he does not feel secure inside the cell and that he should be kept along with other inmates in regular barracks.
Special MCOCA judge Yatin D Shinde has asked the Arthur Road Jail Superintendent to be present in court Tuesday. Jundal is currently facing trial in the 2006 Aurangabad Arms haul case and the 26/11 attack.
Last month the special MCOCA judge Yatin D Shinde had rejected a similar application by Jundal demanding that he should be moved.
While Jundals lawyer Ejaz Naqvi did not appeal against the order,on March 28,Jundal sent a letter to the court claiming that if he was not shifted out,he would go on an indefinite hunger strike.
Jundal has claimed that he is deprived of basic amenities that an accused is entitled to inside the jail, and that he is made to live in inhuman conditions.
Last month while opposing Jundals application, the prosecution had claimed that he was being kept from other inmates for security reasons. The prosecution also claimed that Jundal has access to the jail library and receives two newspapers, and is provided food on time.
In August last year, the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad had secured Jundals custody in the arms haul case. He was first arrested by the Delhi police on June 25,last year after he was deported from Saudi Arabia.
