This is the fourth threat message in a month received by the helpline number of the Mumbai traffic police. (File)The Mumbai police said they received a message early on Tuesday threatening to kill Bollywood actor Salman Khan from a sender who identified himself as the brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
A senior police officer said the message was received on the helpline number of the Mumbai traffic control room at around 12.30 am, after which Worli police officers were notified.
“The sender, in the message, identified himself as the brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. He gave the actor two options to stay alive— either apologise at a temple or pay Rs 5 crore — as members of their gang would kill him,” the officer said.
The police said they believe that the message, sent from an unknown number, appears to be a hoax. “We are in the process of registering a case. A team has already been assigned to locate the suspect,” said the officer.
On Sunday, the Mumbai traffic police received a message from an unknown number, claiming that if Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath did not resign within the next 10 days, he would meet the same fate as former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique. Siddique was allegedly gunned down by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang on October 12 in Bandra (East).
