While seeking a bigger mandate for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday warned Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray against sailing in two boats.
Addressing a rally at Nanded as part of the BJP’s campaign to mark nine years of Modi government at the Centre, Shah said, “Uddhavji, you cannot sail in two boats.”
“The BJP is planning to bring Common Civil Code. We ask Uddhav Thackeray to clarify what is his stand on Common Civil Code? Do you endorse triple talaq or not? We are building a magnificent temple of Lord Ram at Ayodhya. The people of Nanded and Maharashtra want Ram temple. Uddhav Thackeray should clarify his stand on the temple. The BJP is against Muslim reservation as it goes against the Constitution. Any reservation based on religion is against the Constitution. What is Uddhav Thackeray’s stand on Muslim reservation? Does he support Muslim reservation pitched by the Congress,” he asked.

The Union Home Minister also wondered how Thackeray can support the renaming of Aurangabad, Osmanabad and Ahmednagar staying in the Congress-NCP alliance.
“In 2019, I along with Devendra Fadnavis (then CM) had gone to Uddhav Thackeray for negotiations. He had agreed if the NDA got the mandate Fadnavis will become the CM. However, post polls Thackeray broke his promise. He sat on the lap of Congress-NCP for power and CM post,” Shah said.
While asserting that it was Thackeray who betrayed the BJP, Shah recalled, “In 2019 they (Shiv Sena undivided) contested the polls under Modi and Fadnavis leadership.”
“The BJP did not break the Shiv Sena (undivided). The Shiv Sainiks walked out of the party due to ideological differences with Congress-NCP. They did not want to continue with Congress-NCP,” he emphasised.
“The Lok Sabha elections are a year away. The people should decide whom they want as PM. Do you want Narendra Modi or Congress leader Rahul Gandhi,” Shah asked.
Urging the crowd at the rally to express their choice louder amidst the chanting of “Modi, Modi”, Shah said the nine years of Modi rule has overshadowed and surpassed the 65 years’ rule of the Congress in the country in all crucial sectors. “Under Modi’s leadership, the country has earned global dignity and glory. World leaders look up to Modi’s leadership,” he said.
Earlier, on his arrival in Nanded, Shah also visited Takhat Sachkhand Shri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib Gurdwara and offered prayers.
