Ambedkar, Bhujbal to share dias at OBC rally at Madha
The rally is being organised to oppose Maratha reservation under OBC category

Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi president Prakash Ambedkar and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) leader Chhagan Bhujbal are set to share the dias at an OBC conclave convened at Madha in Solapur district on January 28. The conclave has been organised under the OBC Mahasangh banner where leaders representing the community across all parties have been called together.
“The conclave is part of the ongoing OBC consolidation across Maharashtra. It is being done under the OBC Mahasangh banner. It is not confined to any particular party or leadership. Leaders across party lines and organisations who are committed to OBCs welfare are part of the conclave,” Ambedkar said. The OBC event has been called to oppose Maratha reservation within the OBC category across the state.
The organisers approached individual leaders to address the OBC conclave. “There is no political alliance with anybody. Everyone who participates at the meet are pledging to work for the OBC,” Prakash Ambedkar said.
With growing assertion within the Maratha community for reservation within the OBC category, OBC organisations have come together to show their might. Through the conclave, they wish to convey a clear and loud message about their opposing Maratha reservation within the OBC category. Another purpose of the conclave is to assert OBC representation within the mainstream political system.
Bhujbal, who is the cabinet minister for food and civil supplies, also heads the Samata Parishad, which champions the cause of OBCs. Bhujbal has been proactively raising OBCs’ concerns over Maratha reservation. Bhujbal has often publicly expressed his disappointment over kunbi certificates issued to Marathas.
“I am not concerned about any power or post. My priority is to fight for the justice of OBCs. They have to get their rightful dues. We are not against Maratha reservation. They should get separate quota. I am opposed to inclusion of Marathas in OBC category,” Bhujbal said.
“The OBC rally will first take place on January 24 at Osmanabad in Marathwada region. Later on January 28 another OBC rally at Madha in Solapur district in Western Maharashtra will be held,” Ambedkar said. “The tone and tenor at such rallies will be OBC should vote for OBC candidates. We have to assert our stand. Why should OBCs which constitute majority population buckle under others. Moreover, OBCs despite majority have always been under represented in mainstream politics. The OBCs are a decisive factor to get any candidate elected. The OBCs have all these years worked for others. Now, OBCs should contest in larger numbers and ensure victory.”
