Ajit Pawar meets Shinde, seeks relief for cashew farmers
In the letter, Pawar also sought compensation for state farmers who were affected by unseasonal rainfall and hailstorm. The NCP leader pointed out that cashew production has also been adversely affected due to unseasonal rain.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar on Wednesday met Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and submitted a letter to him, demanding a support price of Rs 160 per kg for cashew seeds. While price of cashew has fallen by 25-30% this year and farmers have been facing a lot of problems, traders are reaping the situation to their benefit.
In the letter, Pawar also sought compensation for state farmers who were affected by unseasonal rainfall and hailstorm. The NCP leader pointed out that cashew production has also been adversely affected due to unseasonal rain. Farmers have also been suffering due to the arbitrary policies of cashew traders, he said.
“While cashew nut production is adversely affected due to natural calamities, injustice is being done to farmers due to the arbitrary policies of the traders. Cashew farmers are not getting fair prices for cashew seeds. In order to stop the exploitation of cashew producers, the government should announce a guaranteed price of Rs 160 for cashew seeds by suppressing the arbitrary policy of traders,” Pawar said in the letter.
