It was only a trial run,but students gave it an overwhelming response. They made one lakh hits on the website for online admission to junior college when the government tested it on Sunday.

Nearly 5,000 dummy registrations were made on fyjc.org.in/mumbai,which encountered no major glitches.

The test run was conducted at some 300 centres in Mumbai,Thane and Raigad, part of Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR),to check if it could cope with the heavy traffic during the peak admission season.

The only problem was speed at some centres. Those with low bandwidth found the process slow but those with high bandwith faced no trouble.

“We encountered some problem with the bandwith at some centres. There was no problem with the servers. We are trying to work on the bandwidth problem,” said Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, state education minister.

Dr Aatul Wadegaonkar, general manager for educational e-governance with the Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Ltd (MKCL),said: “The test run was successful. If some centres have low bandwidth and many students at a time log on to the website,it is bound to get slow. On the whole, however, the test went off smoothly.”

From students and parents, the response was mixed. Some were comfortable with the procedure while others were apprehensive.
