The trial in the 7/11 train bomb blasts case commenced on Wednesday, with prosecution examining two witnesses — station masters of Khar and Santacruz railway station— who had lodged complaints in respective police stations after the blast had occurred.

The two witnesses, whose identities are withheld for security reasons, deposed before the special Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) court and said that on July 11,2007,two high intensity blasts occurred in two north-bound trains killing several people and injuring others. Special Public Prosecutor Raja Thackeray said,“The witnesses registered the police complaint and gave their statements to the police about the incident. They supported the prosecution case in court also.” The prosecution will now be examining four more witnesses on Thursday.

Meanwhile, for security reasons, the special court would now be shifted from the present room to a different court room on the similar floor of the city civil and sessions court building. The first witness in the case,a policemen from the Borivali police station, was examined before previous judge M Bhatkar,in the same court. A total of 187 person died in the seven blasts that occurred in the first class compartments of suburban trains on July 11,2006. As per the prosecution, the 13 accused along with other wanted accused planted bombs in the trains on the orders of Lashkar-e-Toiba.

The Supreme Court had recently vacated the stay on the three trials, where some of the accused had challenged a particular section pertaining to insurgency in the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). The trial is now likely to be conducted on a daily basis.
