In a first for a slum rehabilitation project in the country, mobile applications are being used for real-time data collection from residents.
As many as 50,000 door-to-door surveys have been carried out as part of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project to identify eligible residents.
The is the highest number of surveys to be carried out in the history of Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) for a redevelopment initiative, officials said.
The surveys, carried out by Adani-owned firm Navbharat Mega Developers Private Ltd, covers the entire area under Dharavi, including railway land in Matunga earmarked for the project.
According to the state government guidelines, residents must provide at least one proof of residence dating back to before January 1, 2000, to be eligible under rehabilitation project.
Dharavi Redevelopment Project CEO SVR Srinivas urged the residents to cooperate with the survey to avoid delays in the project. “We cannot afford setbacks due to resurveys, especially while managing multiple challenges. We urge all residents to complete the process promptly and submit their documents,” he said.
Once the survey is completed, authorities will determine the number of tenants who will be housed within Dharavi and those who will be relocated outside the notified area. As per the project’s terms, eligible Dharavi residents will be rehabilitated within the locality, while ineligible residents will be relocated to newly developed townships outside Dharavi.
So far, numbering has been completed for 85,000 tenements, while over 50,000 tenements have undergone door-to-door surveys.
In a first for a slum rehabilitation project in the country, mobile applications are being used for real-time data collection from residents.
Additionally, advanced technologies like drones and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) are mapping Dharavi’s vast 620-acre sprawl, ensuring more precise planning.
