A 40-year-old man from Dahisar has been booked for allegedly physically assaulting his 15-year-old daughter. According to police, the man had prohibited his minor daughter from using a mobile phone, and later hit her with a leather belt for defying him. The incident took place late on Wednesday.

“The man has a wife, two daughters, 20-year-old and a 15-year-old, and a son. On Wednesday evening, the man’s wife and their three children went to a birthday party …,” said a police officer.

After they returned home, the accused allegedly started scolding the 15-year-old girl. The 20-year-old daughter, who is the complainant in the case, told police that at 10.45 pm, when they were at home, the man started shouting at her sister for going to the birthday party instead of studying for her ongoing examinations.

“… At the same time, when the 15-year-old took her mobile phone to study online, my father told her not to use the phone. But she continued to do so and said she was studying. My father did not listen to her and started beating her with his hands. He went on to hit her on the legs with a leather belt,” read the statement of the 20-year-old woman.

When their mother intervened, she was also threatened by the accused, said police. “As the victim was not feeling well, the complainant and their mother rushed her to the hospital, where she was given medical treatment,” said police.

The Dahisar police were then informed about the incident after which, early on Thursday, a case under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, was registered.

An officer said, “The person named in the FIR is unemployed and addicted to alcohol. We are still investigating the case.”
