38-year-old engineer jumps off Atal Setu, search on to locate him

According to the police, Srinivas lived in Palava city, Dombivali.

A 38-year-old engineer allegedly jumped off the Atal Setu on Wednesday. The police, Coast Guard and local fishermen are trying to locate him. The police said the engineer, Karuturi Srinivas, was deep in debt.

According to the police, Srinivas lived in Palava city, Dombivali. “He was married and earlier worked in Kuwait. In 2023, he came back to India and started his own company along with a partner, which dealt in electrical contracts in residential buildings,” a police officer said.

The police said Srinivas went to the bridge in his Tata Nexon car, stopped his vehicle on the bridge and then jumped off. “After we learnt about the incident, we located his car from CCTV footage. We found his Aadhaar card in his car,” the officer said.

The police then contacted his family and recorded his wife’s statement, who said Srinivas was in debt. The police have not recovered any suicide note.

“Our team is trying to locate him. There were huge waves today due to which we faced a lot of difficulty. We will resume the search tomorrow,” the officer said.

In March, a 43-year-old woman from Parel allegedly died by suicide by jumped off the Atal Setu. The police had then said the woman, Kinjal Kantilal Shah, a doctor, was depressed and was undergoing treatment.
