25-year-old man held for cheating employee of export company of Rs 4 lakh
The police said the complainant, Vishal Agarwal, had met one of the accused identified as Sanjay through a common friend in April 2023.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested by Ghatkopar police for allegedly duping an employee of an international export company of Rs 4 lakh under the pretext of providing gold at a lesser value.
The police said the accused and his accomplices claimed that one of them worked with the customs department after which they showed him a fake 100 gm gold biscuit and claimed they could help him get it at a lesser rate than its market value following which the frauds collected cash and escaped.
According to police officials, the accused has been identified as Rehan Khan, a resident of Kurla. The police said the complainant, Vishal Agarwal, had met one of the accused identified as Sanjay through a common friend in April 2023.
An officer said, “After a few days, Sanjay called Agarwal and claimed that one of his friends works with the customs department and he could help him in facilitating gold at a cheaper rate.”
Subsequently, Sanjay along with two others met Agarwal near Phoenix Mall in Kurla and also showed him a fake gold biscuit and they claimed that it weighs 100 gram. “They offered the 100 gm gold at Rs 4.5 lakh, but the complainant bargained to 4 lakh after which he withdrew cash from his own and his mother’s account and again met the frauds on May 27,” said an officer.
Under the pretext of counting cash, one person who identified himself as Rahul met the complainant in Ghatkopar. He counted the cash and accordingly informed his accomplice. “The accomplices then reached the spot in a Scorpio vehicle and escaped with cash,” said an official.
The police said the complainant initially followed it up with the people he was in touch with but as they did not return his money or gave him a 100 gm gold biscuit, the 28-year-old then lodged a complaint with the police. A case of cheating was registered at Ghatkopar police station.
An officer said, “We started scanning the CCTV footage when we identified one person as Khan through our informers. Later we came to know that he would be coming to Ghatkopar after which we laid a trap and arrested him.”
The police said the frauds are using bogus names to dupe the victims. An investigator further revealed that they suspect they have approached many such people in the past and duped them under similar circumstances.
