23-year-old woman drowns at Marine Drive, cops suspect suicide

According to officials, she sat on the Promenade around 10am, chatting on her mobile before putting it in her bag and walking towards the sea.

“A passerby noticed her body in the sea and alerted the police,” an officer said. Fire brigade personnel retrieved her body, which was taken to GT Hospital where she was announced dead on arrival.

“We found her laptop, mobile phone, identity card, and some jewellry in her bag,” the officer said adding her family has been informed. “We understand from her phone conversations that she was facing issues with her intended marriage, which may have led her to take this step,” said the officer.
