The Mumbai police are on the lookout for two men, who allegedly escaped on a bike after opening fire at three people in Mazgaon early Saturday.

According to the police, the complainant, Mohsin Akhil Salmani (32), was sitting with his friends Mohammad Salman Abutalib Khan and Imran Majid Sheikh when two men on a bike approached them.

Salmani said in his complaint that the pillion rider took out a pistol and opened fire at him. Police said the bullet missed Salmani, and he began to run. He injured his right leg as he lost balance and slipped while running.

Police said Salmani runs multiple pan shops and has four cases of possession of banned gutka against him. “The complainant is not cooperating much in the investigation and it seems this is a case of some business rivalry,” said a police officer.

Early on Saturday, the Byculla police registered a case of attempt to murder and common intention under the IPC and under relevant sections of the Arms Act.

“We have started scrutinising CCTV footages and are trying to identify the suspects. We have also circulated information about the incident to our sources,” said a police officer investigating the case.
