The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Thursday told the court that one of the four arrested for the July 13 blasts last year had confessed and that his statement has been recorded before a magistrate. Nadeem Shaikh,an alleged Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative, has confessed, the ATS stated.

The four arrested — Naquee Ahmed,Nadeem Shaikh,Kanwar Pathrija and Haroon Naik — were produced before the Mazgaon metropolitan court on Thursday and sent to judicial custody till March 6. When Shaikh’s lawyer Khalid Azmi got up to raise his objection against the confession claiming it was taken under duress,Shaikh intervened and said Azmi had nothing to do in his case as he was not his lawyer. “We withdrew from his case immediately. He claimed we were not representing him,” said counsel Sharif Shaikh.

Three blasts ripped Zaveri Bazaar,Opera House (in South Mumbai) and at Dadar (in central Mumbai) on July 13 last year, killing over 27 people and injuring several others.

The Maharashtra ATS is yet to file charge sheet in the case.
