When old boys of PAU met and Faisalabad varsity dean savoured sarson ka saag

Emotions ran high during the 51st alumni meet of College of Agriculture.

Emotions ran high on the campus of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on Monday during the 51st alumni meet of College of Agriculture.

The ‘old boys’ from Old Boys Association of the varsity remembered good old days and recited poems as tears flowed freely.

The meet also saw old students from the University of Agriculture,Faisalabad,Pakistan coming to meet their friends from their sister varsity,PAU. PAU was born out of Faisalabad varsity after India-Pak partition in 1947 and shifted to Punjab as College of Agriculture. Later,a full-fledged varsity came up in 1962.

Sharing his experience on first visit to India,Dr Mohammad Javed who is the dean of faculty of sciences at Faisalabad varsity,told Newsline,“This is just like seeing our own child touching great heights of success here in India. PAU is our child.”

Savouring makki ki roti and sarson ka saag,he said,“My wife does not know how to cook it,nor does it taste so good back there in Pakistan. One thing I want to replicate there is this winter delicacy.”

Praising India’s commendable work in the field of biogas plants,Dr Sanaullah Bhatti,director,animal diseases reporting and surveillance,Government of Punjab (Pak),said: “India has done a wonderful job in biogas promotion and we would like to take help of experts for Pakistan and soon a meeting will be planned.”

He too expressed his love for ‘saag and makki ki roti’ and said,“After many years I have got the real taste.”

Others who came from Pakistan included Dr Aqrar Khan,Vice-chancellor of Faisalabad varsity; Dr Manzur Ahmad Khan,senior agronomist; Dr Mohammad Iftiqar,director,institute microbiology; Dr Waqas Wakil from entomology; Ahmed Yaar Khan,a progressive grower; Mumtaz Ahmad Khan,a livestock farmer; and Dr Mohd Ashraf,director engineering,Government of Punjab (Pakistan).

A team from PAU had gone to Wagah border to welcome the Pakistani delegation.
