After being a witness to the dismal state of tubewell operations in the city during a recce on Thursday,MC Commissioner G S Ghuman today issued showcause notices to four employees executive engineers Manjit Singh and Ganej Raj and sub-divisional officers Nachattar Singh and J L Bansal. He also asked the officers concerned to impose a penalty on contractor Aabna Builders for violating the rules regarding chlorination and renting out tubewell rooms. Ghuman said the employees (who were issued notices) had kept him in the dark by giving false assurances of everything being in order and the contractor maintaining the tubewells properly. They are accountable for the anomalies that came to light. Now,they will have to explain as to why they were giving ok reports, Ghuman said. Sources,however,said that the contractor is being let-off with a penalty and not being persecuted when he is clearly at fault.Ghuman has also ordered that the rented tubewell rooms be vacated soon and a detailed enquiry be conducted to verify the claims of operators of getting less salaries.
